We have been developing the Charnwood Local Plan 2021-37 for several years.
It provides a robust strategy for growth which simultaneously safeguards the environment and builds healthy communities here in Charnwood.
It sets out the location of land and infrastructure needed for the development required to support the growth of the borough up to 2037.
The plan identifies how the borough will meet increased Government targets for new homes, as well as providing employment land and critical infrastructure.
We have developed the plan using objectively assessed evidence which runs to thousands of pages. We have also held four consultations with the latest final public consultation held in 2021 when there were around 800 comments made.
We submitted the Charnwood Local Plan 2021-37 to Government at the end of 2021 and the examination process is now at an advanced stage.

Charnwood Local Plan Community Infrastructure Levy viability evidence consultation and hearings
Following a consultation on main modifications to the Local Plan and its consideration of those responses, the Council confirmed (Exam 87) that it intends to introduce a Community Infrastructure Charging Levy (CIL) to support the delivery of the North of Leicester, Soar Valley and Loughborough/Shepshed Transport Strategies.
The Inspectors response to the Council (Exam 88), set out that further viability work would be necessary to establish whether there is a reasonable prospect that CIL could be set at a level, or levels, which would not put the viability of development, and therefore the delivery of the Plan, at risk.
An Initial CIL Viability Assessment (Exam 89) has been completed and is now subject to consultation from Monday 17 February until noon on Monday, 17 March 2025.
There are further details relating to the consultation including guidance on how to take part on the Charnwood Local Plan 2021-2037 Examination website.
The consultation ends at noon on 17 March 2025 and all responses should be sent to the Programme Officer at idkemp@icloud.com.
Hearings will be held at the Town Hall on 8 April with 9 April held in reserve.
Further details will be made available on the Examination website.
