Description | Originally a Temperance Hall. Later acquired by Joseph Garton and converted to Auction Rooms. Late C19. A Freestyle mix of Gothic/Domestic/Baroque Revival design elements. Crude Late C20 shop fascia and rendered lower facade. Red brick with expressed terracotta string courses. Steep pitched roofs with Late C20 profiled concrete tiles. Roofs concealed behind upstanding pedimented gable fronting Cattlemarket. and terracotta balustrade to Granby St facade. 3 storeys. Asymmetrical oriel windows carried on elaborate Baroque corbels address angled returns between front and side elevations. Terracotta faced lintols with keystone to openings but casements are recent. |
