A community village hall has been transformed thanks to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The Jubilee Hall in Anstey has been extended by Anstey Parish Council and now provides a second larger community hall for the local scout group and improved facilities for groups in the area.
The project has received £524,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is one of 10 projects chosen by Charnwood Borough Council. The Council has been allocated £4 million from the fund to invest in communities, support local businesses and improve skills.
Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: “I am so pleased to see the improvement work completed at the Jubilee Hall in Anstey.
“This building is at the heart of the community and it is such a busy space so it is fantastic to be able to support the project to allow more groups to use the hall and to improve the facilities.
Glyn McAllister, chair of Anstey Parish Council, said: “It is great that at Anstey Parish Council we have been able to deliver this project to the village with the support of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
“The village hall is an extremely busy place so to be able to extend it is a real positive which will benefit the community for many years to come.”
Sue Billington, vice-chair of the parish council, said: “The Jubilee Hall is important to the community with the local scouts group and other groups using the space. I am really happy with the extension and the project as a whole.”
A new meeting room facility has also been included within the project which is available to hire as well as additional storage.
New toilet facilities have been installed and include outdoor access for sports users and spectators on the recreation ground.
A garage space has also been created for the Council’s ground maintenance service.
Work to the Jubilee Hall began in September 2023 and the total cost of the project is over £860,000. The project is also being funded by parish council reserves and contributions from developments in the area under Section 106 agreements.
The projects being backed by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Charnwood Borough Council also include expanding sports facilities in Mountsorrel, a three-year youth support programme, improving the wellbeing and skills of young people as well as regenerating Shepshed’s Market Place.
