Latest round of Charnwood Community Grants announced

More community projects are being supported through Charnwood Community Grants.

In the latest round of grants, nearly £40,000 has been allocated to 14 projects which are making a positive difference across the borough.

Charnwood Borough Council awards tens of thousands of pounds each year to support groups and projects.

The latest projects to receive funding, totalling £39,670, include an urban farm initiative, the purchasing of a ship simulator to provide nautical training, a community pantomime, creation of a new wellbeing hub, and support for disadvantaged young people.

Councillor Liz Blackshaw, the Council’s lead member for communities and neighbourhoods, said: “We are delighted to support these incredible community projects that are having a real impact across Charnwood.

“The Charnwood Community Grants programme enables us to empower local groups and initiatives that bring people together, build skills and enhance wellbeing.

“This latest round of grants reflects the diverse and inspiring work taking place in our borough, from innovative training schemes to creative events and vital support hubs.

“We are proud to help fund these projects and I look forward to seeing the positive changes they bring to our communities.”

The 14 Charnwood Community Grants which have been awarded are:

• £4,000 to African Oasis towards the maintenance and enhancement of Shelthorpe Urban Farm Project including an Aquaponic system in the community allotment (Funded through the Loughborough Grant)

• £4,000 to The Arc Community Hub towards their new part time caretaker role to meet the increasing demands of the centre previously managed by volunteers (Part funded from the Loughborough Grant) 

• £3,500 to Beacon Rotary for Home Starter Boxes for individuals and families being rehoused in Charnwood

• £3,500 to Loughborough Wellbeing Centre towards the running costs for the new Sileby Wellbeing Hub delivering sessions promoting positive health/wellbeing

• £3,300 to Peter Le Marchant Trust to subsidise canal trips for those in financial hardship, living with physical and /or mental health disabilities (Funded through the Loughborough Grant) 

• £3,000 to Modern Painters New Decorators towards the delivery of their Creative Project for disadvantaged young people

• £3,000 to Voluntary Action South Leicestershire (VASL) toward running costs of a regular carers support group in Charnwood

• £3,000 to Glebe House towards updating the meeting space and furniture to meet the needs of their clients with learning disabilities and autism and their families/carers

• £2,750 to Loughborough Sea Cadets for a Ship Simulator to provide young people an opportunity to access high quality nautical training and gain qualifications

• £2,620 to Age Concern Syston to cover increased running costs for their services for the elderly residents of South Charnwood including support for cost of living concerns and loneliness 

• £2,500 to Love 4 Life towards core running costs of support services to vulnerable young girls, to inform their decisions in their health, education and relationships

• £2,000 to ProActive Community Endeavours (PACE) for training for volunteers to deliver their wide range of community support projects

• £1,500 to Fashion Art Design CIC toward the delivery of a creative project with Love 4 Life vulnerable young female clients encouraging and inspiring their aspirations

• £1,000 to Birstall Theatre Company towards production costs for their community Pantomime
