Free bird boxes on offer for Charnwood residents

Published: Thu 13th February, 2025

Please note, due to high demand, all bird boxes have now been reserved. We are asking residents not to attend without a booking to avoid disappointment.

Residents in Charnwood will be able to attract more local wildlife to their gardens with free bird boxes handed out this month.

The RSPB, in partnership with the Council’s open spaces partner idverde, will be giving out 200 free bird boxes at the Outwoods in Loughborough.

Charnwood residents will be able to collect up to three bird boxes each from the barn at the Outwoods on Wednesday, 19 February and Friday, 21 February. They can be collected from 10am-1pm on each day.

Businesses and local community groups are also encouraged to collect a bird box.

The giveaway is taking place as part of National Nestbox Week.

Cllr Anne Gray, the Council’s lead member for open spaces, said: “It is fantastic that people in Charnwood will be able to collect three free bird boxes.

“This is a great way to draw more wildlife to your garden and an opportunity to discover more birds which inhabit the local area.”

The bird boxes which will be on offer are for house sparrows, robins, wrens, starlings and swifts.

Residents can reserve their bird boxes via the following links:

The remaining bird boxes can be collected on a first-come, first-served basis.

An officer form the RSPB will be on hand to give advice and information to residents when the bird boxes are being collected.
