An adaptation is an alteration or addition to your home that will allow you to live more comfortably, safely and independently. 

Contact the Leicestershire County Council's Adult Social Care service to arrange for an occupational therapist to come and carry out an assessment of needs in your home, using the following:

Minor adaptions

An adaptation could be as simply as a grab rail to aid your mobility. This, and other similar adaptations are known as minor adaptations. A minor adaptation is an adaptation costing less than £500. Examples include:

  • Hand rails
  • Grab rails
  • Stair rails

Major adaptations

Adaptations costing more than £500 are known as major adaptations. Major adaptations may include:

  • Getting around the home (eg. widened doorways or stair lifts)
  • Replacing a bath with a level access shower
  • Installing a ramp to give access to the home.
