Charnwood Borough Council insure the structure of your home, but our cover doesn’t include what’s inside it (your furniture and your personal belongings).
If you have to replace the contents of your home, it could prove very expensive. We therefore strongly recommend that you get your personal belongings insured against events including:
- Accidental damage
- Fire
- Theft
- Flooding/escape of water
You are free to find your own insurance, but we can offer you a special household contents insurance scheme, only available to Charnwood Borough Council Customers working with a major insurer to offer home contents insurance that can be paid in weekly instalments, at very competitive rates. Unlike some insurances, on this scheme, exclusively for Charnwood Borough Council customers, there are no excesses – so nothing to pay in the event of a claim.
More information on the scheme can be found on the application form provided below:
- Home Contents Insurance Application Form and Product Information Document (PDF Document, 0.75 Mb)
- Home Contents Insurance Policy Booklet (PDF Document, 0.16 Mb)
Please return any completed forms to rent.control@charnwood.gov.uk or via post to Landlord Services, Charnwood Borough Council, Southfield Road, Loughborough, Leicestershire LE11 2TX
Home contents insurance scheme: levels of cover
There are two cover levels for you to decide from: STANDARD and ACCIDENTAL.
Most of your household goods and contents are insured when inside the home, including bikes and computer equipment. They are covered against loss or damage caused by specific events such as theft, fire, and flood.
Also insured are lost or stolen keys, freezer contents, your own legal liability to the public, the cost of alternative accommodation and improvements you have made to your home such as fitted kitchens, bathrooms, wardrobes, laminate flooring, patio doors etc (but not greenhouses or conservatories).
You also have the option to add cover for personal belongings, hearing aids, wheelchairs or pedal cycles at an additional premium.
