Thanks to our colleagues at Serco who have been out in Quorn, Syston and East Goscote today to do some cleaning of streets.
They are having to use shovels to do things manually as the road sweepers – which use water to clean the roads – can’t operate in freezing conditions as the water freezes, causing a hazard on the roads and can also cause the pipes to freeze.
If gritters have been out we also do not want to remove that from icy roads.
It means the weather is holding up the street clean up but we are aiming to get going with the sweepers on Monday when temperatures look set to rise.
