A pilot market in Loughborough supporting new and young traders and budding businesses has had a successful first outing.

Loughborough KickStart Market took place for the first time on Sunday May 26 between 10am-4pm.

The new market is being organised by Charnwood Borough Council’s markets team.

A variety of stalls took part in the event offering homemade jewellery and accessories, retro sweets, plants, toys, guitar tuition and sports injury and physio equipment.

Chris Grace, head of economic development and regeneration at Charnwood Borough Council said: “It was great to welcome new traders and businesses to the first KickStart Market.

“There was an eclectic mix of stalls for customers to visit, each offering something different to customers. Where else could you sign up to guitar lessons whilst buying plants or jewellery?

“The market went down well with visitors to the town and there was a lot of enthusiasm from the traders, which was great to see.”

Loughborough Markets’ Thursday and Saturday retail street markets are among the largest in the area and steeped in 800 years of history.

Every Friday, a Vintage and Collectors Market takes place in Loughborough and a micro-market in Shepshed. Both are growing in popularity. The Council is also bringing more and more specialist markets to the heart of Loughborough.
