Celebrating Charnwood event proves popular with visitors

Hundreds of visitors enjoyed the first ever Celebrating Charnwood event at Southfields Park in Loughborough.

The event, organised by Charnwood Borough Council, took place on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30 and featured free outdoor cinema screenings, funfair rides and food and drink stalls.

Members of the military were present as the event marked Armed Forces Day which took place on Saturday. Military vehicles were available for visitors to view.

The event, which also marked the 50th anniversary of Charnwood, was kindly supported by headline sponsor Loughborough Schools Foundation and Loughborough College.

Chris Grace, head of economic development and regeneration at Charnwood Borough Council, said: “I am so pleased to see so many residents and visitors enjoy the Celebrating Charnwood event over the weekend and it proved to be a huge success.

“We have expanded our events programme for 2024 and it was great to see Southfields Park so busy with people enjoying the outdoor cinema screen and the activities available to those of all ages.”

The Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Dr Julie Bradshaw MBE attended the event on Saturday, June 29.

Three films were screened each day and included family favourites, The Greatest Showman, Grease and Mamma Mia.

In addition, visitors could look around a number of community stalls which included face painting, arts and craft stands and jewellery stalls.

A variety of food and drinks stalls were also on offer which included Indian street food, burger stands and a licensed bar.
