Charnwood Borough Council’s Markets, Fairs and Events team picked up the ‘Best Team’ award for their work to put on weekly and specialist markets and events such as Loughborough Fair and the Loughborough Christmas Lights Switch-on.
Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: “I am so pleased to see the successes across the whole of Charnwood at this year’s awards.
“A huge congratulations to everyone nominated and I would like to say a massive well done to our markets and fair team who scooped up the Best Team award.
“Popular events such as Loughborough Fair and the Christmas Lights Switch-on wouldn’t be possible without their hard work as well as new events this year like Celebrating Charnwood and Music in the Park.
“It’s so important that we continue to support our local businesses, locations and events to keep the whole borough and Leicestershire’s hospitality industry and economy thriving.”
Martin Peters, chief executive of Leicestershire Promotions, said: “Tourism is a high-pressure industry and it’s vital we recognise excellence across the sector.
“We pride ourselves on the most rigorous assessment process and finalists and winners receive invaluable feedback to help them develop their businesses further.
“12 of our winners now go forwards to the National Visit England Awards next spring, so we wish them well and congratulate all our winners.”
