Leicestershire County Council elections - May 2025
County Council elections are usually held on the first Thursday in May every 4 years. The next County Council election will take place on Thursday, 1 May 2025.

- Deadline to submit nominations – Wednesday, 2 April 2025 at 4pm

- Deadline to register to vote – Friday, 11 April 2025 at 11:59pm
- Deadline to apply for a postal vote – Monday, 14 April 2025 at 5pm

Standing for election
A Candidates and Agents briefing session will be held on Monday, 3 March 2025. The session will cover an overview of the election process, with a specific focus on the completion of nomination papers. If you would like to express an interest in attending this briefing, then please contact Electoral Services to find out more information.
If you would like to stand as a candidate in this election, you must submit a valid nomination form by 4pm on Wednesday, 2 April 2025 to the Deputy Returning Officer at the Council Offices, Southfield Road, Loughborough, LE11 2TR. You should make an appointment to do this, where an informal check of your papers will be offered.
Nomination forms can be found on the Electoral Commission website, or a pack can be requested from the Electoral Services office. Guidance and nomination papers for prospective candidates may be downloaded from the Electoral Commission.

Registering to vote
To be able to vote in these elections, you must have registered to vote by 11:59pm on Friday, 11 April 2025.
You can register to vote at any time, so if you’re not already registered, it is best to make sure you do this in plenty of time. If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, you can find out more information on the register to vote webpage.
How to vote
You should also think about how you would like to cast your vote early so you have time to prepare:
- All voters in the polling station will need to show photographic ID before voting. Find out more information about acceptable ID and how to vote at a polling station
- If you need to apply to vote by post, you can find out more information on the vote by post webpage. The deadline to apply is 5pm on Monday, 14 April 2025.
- If you need to apply to vote by proxy, you can find out more information on the vote by proxy webpage. The deadline to apply is 5pm on Wednesday, 23 April 2025.
