Information about Newhurst Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) can be found on this webpage.
The Newhurst Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) at Shepshed is run by Encyclis and is permitted by the Environment Agency (EA). The permit sets emission limits for various pollutants including, carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), particulates and heavy metals. Emissions from the stack are continuously monitored. This provides real-time data which is reported to the EA to demonstrate compliance with the permitted limits at frequencies specified in the permit.
Report unusual or odorous emissions to the EA
Concerns about unusual or odorous emissions should be reported to the EA on their 24-hour incident hotline number, open 7 days a week on: 0800 80 70 60.
Report directly to Encyclis
Encyclis operate a specialist call answering and handling service to reports any unusual incident or complaints on: 03331 887802 Or by email at NewhurstEnquries@encyclis.com.
Charnwood Borough Council is responsible for monitoring Air Quality and for regulating statutory nuisance. We are also required to submit an Annual Status Report (ASR) to DEFRA on the state of air quality in the borough. We therefore have a AQ monitor in the Shepshed/Loughborough area.
Whilst it is not possible to eliminate all emissions from this facility the Environmental Protection Team will follow up reports of excessive or unusual odour nuisance and liaise with the Environment Agency and/or the operator where appropriate.
