We have a responsibility toward the local environment and in order to manage these responsibilities, we operate an internal environmental management system.
This helps us to manage and reduce the environmental impact of our activities and the services we deliver.
Each year we audit all of our activities and services to make sure that we are following our environmental policy.

How does environmental management work?
The management system is based on a 'plan, do, check, act' cycle. All decisions made by Cabinet are based on reports; each time a report is submitted the officer responsible must decide whether there are any sustainability problems to consider.
The purpose of this is to assess the social, environmental and economic impacts of the policy, service or function concerned. This will make sure that any decisions help to achieve sustainable development and meet the needs of both present and future generations.
