Equality Action
We are delighted to have Equality Action as one of our strategic partners.
Equality Action has served communities in and around Loughborough since 1969.
In 2023/24, they dealt with 1,300 different cases, helping people from all backgrounds, particular from BAME communities, with matters relating to welfare, immigration, debt, housing, employment and education.
They also run projects that address physical and mental health and wellbeing, offering support to NHS Talking Therapies, workshops and sessions on creative activities including swimming and walking groups.
The charity works in partnership with a range of organisations, and strongly support collaborations and joined up support for their beneficiaries.
Varsha Parmar (pictured above, second from the left), Equality Action’s chief executive, said: "We’ve been here for 55 years, and a lot has changed since then, including how the needs of the community have changed in that time.
"For us, it’s not just a quick fix for one thing, it’s looking at a holistic picture of how you can empower people and support communities.
"I love seeing first-hand the positive impact we can have - and when you see the joined-up effort of all the organisations that work together to really make a difference in your locality, that really makes everything worthwhile. Community Cohesion is also a big part of our work, bringing communities together to celebrate diversity and promote inclusion. We are a key partner in the Loughborough Mela."
Equality Action are one of seven strategic partners who have received a grant to deliver work in the borough that meet the aims of the Council’s Corporate Plan.
