We are proud to have Living Without Abuse as one of our strategic partners.

LWA offers help and support for anyone who is experiencing abuse across Leicestershire and Rutland.

A dedicated team of staff and volunteers support between 7,000 and 9,000 people each year, including around 3,000 children, working closely with social services, police and other organisations.

Fundraising is vital for LWA and they are one of the Mayor of Charnwood’s chosen charities for 2024/25. Their regular annual fundraisers include a Strictly Come Dancing event, a colour run and Burns Night supper.

One tangible example of what money raised might be used for is a “starter pack” for people who have fled domestic abuse with nothing but their personal effects and need to be put into refuge or emergency housing accommodation.

These starter packs include a kettle, toaster, microwave, pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, bedding, bed linen and a towel. They cost around £250 per person and can make a huge difference.

Emily Corrigan, head of fundraising for LWA, said: “It is a challenging area to work in and it can be very emotionally and mentally draining but it is extremely rewarding, particularly when you do see really significant changes. You are genuinely making a difference to people’s lives.”

Living Without Abuse are one of seven strategic partners who have received a grant to deliver work in the borough that meet the aims of the Council’s Corporate Plan.
