The general election will take place on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

The borough of Charnwood is covered by three parliamentary constituencies:

  • Loughborough
  • Mid Leicestershire
  • Melton and Syston

It was previously two constituencies.

Voters in each constituency will elect a Member of Parliament (MP).

Charnwood Borough Council is responsible for administering the elections in the parliamentary constituencies for Loughborough and Mid Leicestershire.

The election for the Melton and Syston constituency is being administered by Melton Borough Council.

Key dates for the general election 

  • 30 May - Dissolution of Parliament
  • 31 May - receipt of Writ
  • Tuesday 4 June (no later than 4pm) - publication of notice of election
  • Friday 7 June, 4pm - Close of nominations
  • June 18 at 11.59pm - deadline for registering to vote
  • June 19 at 5pm - deadline for receiving new postal vote and postal proxy applications, and for changes to existing postal or proxy votes 
  • June 26 at 5pm - deadline for receiving new applications to vote by proxy (not postal proxy or emergency proxies)
  • June 26 at 5pm - deadline for receiving applications for Voter Authority Certificates
  • July 4, 7am-10pm - Polling Day
  • July 4/5 - Votes counted overnight
