It is a criminal offence to draw or paint on public or private property without the consent of the owner.
If you are a victim of crime, please report this via the Leicestershire Police website or by calling 101.
Those caught can be prosecuted and if found guilty can be fined.
Please note that removal of graffiti from the organisations below is the responsibility of the organisation. Please report to them directly:
- Railway bridges – contact Network Rail or for Heritage Bridges please contact Great Central Railway
- Highway bridges and underpasses – contact Leicestershire County Council Highways
- The surface of adopted roads and pavements – contact Leicestershire County Council Highways
We will remove graffiti if:
- it is offensive; or
- the property and land owned by Charnwood Borough Council
If permission has already been received, we aim to remove offensive graffiti within 24 hours of it being logged with our contractors.
If permission has already been received, we aim to remove non offensive graffiti within 7 days of it being logged with our contractors (we will not be able to remove graffiti without permission).
Graffiti on private property
We offer a graffiti removal service to private residents and businesses (this may incur a charge).
Only when your permission has been received will the Council's Cleansing and Open Spaces Team arrange for the removal of the graffiti.
If it is not possible for the graffiti to be removed in the standard manner i.e. jet washing, we may be required to paint over the graffiti in a similar finish to the original.
