Having a diverse workforce is important to us. We know we need to be representative of the communities we work for and how important it is to utilise the views and experiences of people.

We have an internal Equality Working Group which looks at equality and diversity issues. It meets regularly and is used as a forum for discussion, to give feedback and raise issues.

Its aim is to ensure the Council is an equal and diverse employer.

Employment

We would like to create a culture where people of all backgrounds and experience feel appreciated and valued. We believe that having a workforce that is representative of the local community will improve our services, as we have a better understanding of the needs of our customers.

We also aim to provide flexible working arrangements where we are able to accommodate the variety of our staffs needs.

Disability Confident

The Council is a Disability Confident accredited employer which demonstrates our commitment to recruiting and retaining disabled people and those with health conditions.  We strive to promote a disability-confident culture and support employees to manage their disabilities or health conditions within the workplace.

The Council also has a guaranteed interview scheme in place for disabled people that ensures those who meet the essential requirements for the post will be offered an interview.

We aim to ensure there are no barriers to the recruitment of disabled people and as part of that, we want to provide a process that is inclusive and accessible.

The Council recognises that reasonable adjustments may be necessary to support this. We offer candidates the opportunity to make us aware of any reasonable adjustments that they may require both with the application process and the ongoing recruitment process if selected for an interview. Managers invite candidates to make them aware of any reasonable adjustments as part of the recruitment process if selected for an interview.

In addition, a candidate may require practical support such as alternative recruitment materials in a different format.  If a candidate requires alternative recruitment materials, or would like to make contact regarding any other reasonable adjustment in confidence, please contact Human Resources at hr@charnwood.gov.uk.
