Charnwood Borough Council has a legal document in place to operate the car parks, apply charges and carry out enforcement for safe and appropriate parking.

The Council is proposing to revoke and replace the current Off Street Parking Places Order from 2014.

The reasons for the replacement legal order are as follows:

1. A replacement Parking Places Order is required to incorporate past changes and the new amendments listed thereby giving transparency and clarity to the order.

2. Amendments to be included:

  • To incorporate the updated Regulations 2022 for the Traffic Management Act, thereby ensuring the car park is legally operated
  • Remove the statement in the PPO regarding electricity charges to the public to ensure all costs to the Council can be collected from the public
  • To include virtual and phone payment options to the PPO, thereby opening potential alternative payment methods for the public

3. Discounted Season Tickets restrictions on sale are relaxed to allow more discounted sales to customer groups.

Revocation of the 2021 Experimental Order at Southfields Office car park

During the pandemic Charnwood Borough Council supported the NHS by hosting a vaccination centre in the Council Offices.

To support this successful initiative, free parking was put in place for members of the public attending for their vaccination jabs. This was achieved by putting in place an ‘emergency’ Experimental Parking Places Order which allowed the public to use the car park when they would otherwise have not been allowed.

The vaccination hub vacated the Council offices in March 2022. Therefore, the car park will be returned to its former operating hours and charges.

The Experimental Off Street Parking Places Order at Southfields is to be revoked from June 6, 2022.

Charnwood (off street parking places) Order 2022 Amendment Order Number 1 2024

A consultation has been launched by Charnwood Borough Council over proposals to make changes to charges at its car parks in Loughborough. The current parking charges have been unchanged for 12 years and during that time costs have risen significantly.

The increases are proposed to help ensure we can continue to provide high-quality car parks for people to use in Loughborough.

At its meeting on 8th August 2024, the Council’s Cabinet considered and made resolutions arising from a number of recommendations.

The relevant resolution at the meeting on 8th August 2024 was to amend the pricing and timings of tariffs in the car parks at Beehive Lane Car Park, Brown’s Lane Leisure Centre Car Park both for leisure and non-leisure users, Granby Street Car Park, Southfield Road Car Park and Southfield Offices Car Park for both staff and visitors.

A copy of the report from the meeting on 8th August 2024 can be viewed on the Council’s website.
